If you have ever picked up a Pottery Barn catalog than you surely will concur that they have some of the most delightful children's furnishings around. From bedroom décor to play kitchens, Pottery Barn does a extraordinary job in designing, creating, and of course, advertising.

One of the most popular items over the past few of years, to say the least, has been the pink retro kitchen. This toy kitchen comes in three unconnected pieces and may be acquired that way or in a collection. Although this play kitchen is an eye full in the catalog, its price is a jaw dropper. At just under $700 (the sale price), the Pottery Barn Pink Retro Kitchen exceeds the budget of most parents making this adorable pretend play kitchen a mere fantasy.

But have no fear because another option is here. If you were one of those parents who romanticized about buying the Pottery Barn Pink Retro Kitchen but did not idealize the price, KidKraft has your back. Not to long ago, the popular and trusted manufacturer, KidKraft, launched a pink retro toy kitchen that looked mysteriously similar to Pottery Barn’s version. You might even say it is a copy but there are conspicuous differences as well. At nearly a quarter of the price of Pottery Barn’s Pink Retro Kitchen, KidKraft’s edition swept the play kitchens scene offering parents a highly desired substitute.

KidKraft’s pink retro toy kitchen comes in two pieces (stove and oven are one piece) but sold together and is smaller in size while Pottery Barn offers the pink retro kitchen in three separate pieces. The dimensions of KidKraft's version gives it a little more flexibility as to where you might place your new pink retro kitchen but also may be better suited for younger children. Ideal ages are probably between 12 months to 5 years old while the Pottery Barn Pink Retro Kitchen might be more appropriate for ages between 3 and 8.

Both play kitchens are assembled from long-lasting wood products and are meant to last. The pink retro kitchen produced by Pottery Barn has stainless steal features and can actually occupy water in the sink. A pleasing feature? Maybe. It depends how much you trust your toddlers with a sink full of water. I, for one, know that it would be all over my floor in no time with the little mess maker that my little girl tends to be.

Both pink retro kitchens offer an ample amount of cargo space; essential for storing all of the accessories and play food. Due to the shear size of Pottery Barn’s version you will find more space than its counterpart, but the KidKraft Pink Retro Kitchen also offers a whole compartment under the sink and a drawer under the oven.

In summary, while the Pottery Barn Pink Retro Kitchen falls nothing short of delectable, the price tag is far from appealing. KidKraft offers an exceptional alternative to your pink retro kitchen woes and your little girl is sure to adore it.

  2. We bought one of these for our girls and it was one of the best toys we ever spent money on. They spend hours playing with this toy. With the addition of some play food, utensils, and a few play kitchen appliances, our girls have gotten very creative making complete meals to serve each other and us. We were surprised that when cousins come over this toy is just as popular with the boys! We highly recommend.
