Here we explain the basic steps that an adopting family should undertake:

1. Before adopting you should conduct some initial research about the process of adoption. This way you will understand that it isn't like walking into an agency and walking out the same day with a child.

2. Choose the right adoption agency. We advised the adopting families to seek professional help and guidance from an adoption agency. Compare many agencies until you find the one that fits your needs the best.

3. Do the home study which all agencies will require of you. A home study will help in determining an adopting family receiving a positive review and recommendation from the adoption agency.

4. Search for the child you've been wanting. If you have a child in mind you can search the ones the agency has in its care or you can ask them to search other agencies for you.

5. Meet the child and get acquainted make sure you feel a connection. This can help both parties especially when adopting an older child.

6. Prepare the home for placement and finalization of your new adopted child. A Placement is when the child is ready to live with your family. The adoption agency will assist you during the first few months of placement.

During the final adoption stage a court hearing will take place and a judge will finalize the adoption process and an amended birth certificate will be issued.
