Kids & Toys
I think the word "toys" is among one of the first words our children learn. This is their currency and what their world is all about!. Shopping for toys can be a very interesting experience. No matter if you are shopping for groceries or your in the local home improvement store you are going to find some kind of toy! And experience has taught me that if the kids are with you in the store, they will zero in on that toy from 2 aisles away.
The options for buying kids toys are endless. There are a few rules you should follow that will save you money and enrich your child’s life at the same time. It is important when choosing toys for your child that they be good quality, safe and affordable. There is a vast difference in the quality of children’s toys on the market today. You can still find metal Tonka toys made 25 to 30 years ago. How many of today’s plastic toys do you think we will see 25 to 30 years from now? Now you are not going to find very many of the metal variety of years ago but there are some very good quality plastic and wood toys available. The difference in price between quality toys and those of lesser quality is not that much when you consider the cheaper toy will be lucky to survive 6 months.
Another very important consideration is to buy toys that are age appropriate. You don't want to give a small child a toy that has small pieces or parts that could be broken off and swallowed. Always be aware of sharp edges and parts that could cause injury. It is important to evaluate the toy you are considering, review the manufacturers age recommendations. The decision however must be based on your child's skill and maturity level.
You should also consider toys that will stimulate their imagination. There are many educational toys to choose from but remember that a simple doll or toy car can open up a wonderful world of learning and fantasy. Purchase something that will stimulate their minds and get them away from the endless hours wasted in front of the television.

This article hits it directly on the head. Quality toys do not have to cost a fortune. They also should be age appropriate, stimulte the child in many ways such as developmental. manipulative, creative and imaginative. these are all major components necessary for future learning. Out of the box thinking is stimulated by creative & imaginative play. Many great toys are multi-functional. For example, the Funtime Tractor by I Play is a truck hauling a tractor filled with 6 farm animals. The truck has headlights that work, will play Old MacDonald & beeps. Each animal has a special spot in the trailer & when the animal is placed in the proper shape, the child will hear the sound that the animal makes. Plus, the truck is kid powered. Mutli functional for creative play, small motor control, repetitive actions to re-inforce learning, creative play & musical. Certainly has lots of play value. So, when thinking about toys for your children, think Specialty Toy Store. Look at the ASTRA site for a list of stores in your area (http://www.astra.org) or please visit my site http://www.azdollhouse.com.
